do any chevy 350 engines from 1970 to 1990 use a 'long reach' spark plug ?
i have a chevy 350 engine in my 1949 chevy pickup. the block has been 'decked' and there is no engine id number. according to the person i bought the engine from, it was a manufactured between 1970 and 1990, most likely in the late 70's or early 80's. the engine currently has new long reach iridium spark plugs in it. they are ngk tr55ix. the engine runs very rich, too rich for good driveability. it has a brand new edelbrock 650 carb, set up at the factory for 'economy', with automatic choke which operates well and opens fully with the engine warm. the distributor is a new hei model with new msd ignition wires that have about 120 to 180 ohms resistance from inside the distributor cap to the plug ends of the wires. the engine has been rebuilt and the compression was just checked and all 8 cylinders have a compression reading of between 140 and 150 pounds. there are new headers on it with new flowmaster 50 mufflers. a friend said the rich running problem is because the engine has the long reach plugs in it and should have short reach spark plugs which would help a lot to solve the problem. does anyone know if the long reach plugs were used in any of these engines from 1970 and 1990 ? does anyone have an opinion on whether short reach plugs would improve the rich running situation ? and lastly, does anyone have any suggestions on what might help to lean out the engine. thanks for your comments, jim

i have a 1949 chevy pickup 3100. it has newer black paint, professionally done. just put in new headliner, seat, dash pannels, tires, grill, bumpers, hubcaps, new oak bed, new radio/speakers, taillights, blinkers, seatbelts, basically overhauled the engine(inline 6, not sure if its original) and out on a new carb, distributer, and a new battery. it has about 50,000 miles on it. what do u think its worth?

which 1970/1980's chevy had a front wheel bearing (outer) with a 0.75" inside diameter (a 0.75" spindle)? thnx?
i have a chevy front clip and a 350 engine in my 1949 chevy pickup. i was told it was a 1980 camaro clip when i bought it. however i bought new rotors for a 1980 camaro and the existing outer wheel bearings are too small for the new rotor. i checked and the spindle diameter at the outer bearing is 0.75". the outer bearing for the new rotor has an inside diameter of 0.85" and is too large for my clip. i've been to a couple of parts stores and they can't find a wheel bearing to fit . they tend to think the spindle may have come from a dropped axle because of the spindle being 0.75" , but that isn't the case. i'd like to know what the front clip actually comes from if someone has a thought what it might actually be. thanks for any help, jim .
chevy in line six cylinder question?
what is the difference between a 250 c.i. engine with cast in manifolds and the older ones with the separate intake manifolds? i will use either of these engines in a 1949 chevy pickup to utilize a modern automatic trans and rear end. any advice for pieces needed for the swap would be appreciated.
